EMOM - ADD 1 BURPEE EACH MINUTE. How far can you get??

Did you know THE BURPEE was invented in 1939 by an American physiologist named Royal Huddleston Burpee Sr?

He created the movement not as a brutal fitness punishment, but as a quick, efficient way to assess a person's physical fitness. Royal Burpee was completing his PhD in applied physiology at Columbia University when he developed the test. He wanted a simple way to measure cardiac capacity and agility for everyday people.

His original version was a four-count movement that did not include the push-up or the vertical jump:

🪖 How It Became a Military Phenomenon

The exercise went mainstream during World War II. In 1942, the United States military adopted the burpee as part of its induction fitness test for soldiers.

The military modified the test, requiring recruits to do as many burpees as possible in 20 seconds (and later, a full minute) to gauge their agility, strength, and endurance. A soldier who could crush 41 or more burpees in a minute was considered to be in "excellent" condition. Over time, the military and fitness culture added the grueling push-up and explosive jump we know today.

Here's the WOD:
